Beach Cleanup for Disney VoluntEARS and ODA

By ODA Advisory Board Member Cheryl McCarthy

ODA's Cheryl McCarthy with the Disney VolunteersA dozen of our Disney VoluntEARS friends joined forces with us and the Orange County Parks Association to clean trash and debris from beaches in Dana Point, CA, on Saturday, September 26th.

We covered a lot of ground (or make that sand!) on Salt Creek and Strands Beaches. This was our second annual beach cleanup with the Disney organization.

From 9am-12pm we scoured the beach collecting 12 large bags of plastic, cigarette butts, bottles, flip flops, beach toys, and other debris deadly to marine life.

As an advisory board member for ODA, I was pleased to be able to organize this effort which brought out folks from a great company to personally take action and remove harmful debris that would otherwise make its way out sea to harm ocean animals and their environment.

We had a great time together. Thank you VoluntEARS! Here we are pictured with some of our "take."
